Elon Musk’s xAI is expected to launch its own AI program tomorrow, but with limited capabilities. Musk, who has strong feelings about AI, said on X that his artificial intelligence business, xAI, will release its first AI to a select group.

“In some important ways, it is the best that currently exists,” the billionaire tech tycoon wrote on Facebook.

Elon Musk founded his own AI startup in July of this year. At the time, OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT, were at the pinnacle of their success. Musk, who was an early investor in OpenAI, had cautioned that the way OpenAI and Microsoft, another investor in the company, were approaching AI without considering the program’s potential risks, would mean the end of human civilisation.

Musk, who has had strong views on AI for years, was also among a slew of businessmen, humanitarians, and scientists who cautioned about the disastrous repercussions of AI if it is allowed to evolve without checks and balances.

Elon Musk was an early supporter of OpenAI, the group behind ChatGPT, the popular language model that has made ripples in the world of education. But it’s been a long road because Musk’s relationship with the corporation has deteriorated over time. He has openly criticized ChatGPT, stating that it has a liberal bent. In February, he expressed a desire for a model similar to “TruthGPT” and expressed worries about how closely ChatGPT collaborates with Microsoft and its operations.

“Announcing the formation of @xAI to understand reality,” Musk wrote in July, when he announced the launch of xAI.

The financing, particular objectives, and focus of xAI on artificial intelligence remain unknown at this time. However, according to the company’s website, its mission is to understand the true nature of the universe.

Elon Musk explained his idea for creating a safer AI at an X Spaces event held following the xAI launch. Rather of directly encoding morals into the AI, xAI’s strategy is to make the AI as interested as possible. Musk believes that allowing AI to investigate the fundamental features of the universe will naturally prioritize acts that help humanity. He emphasized the fundamental value and fascination of human life, which he regarded as crucial.

“If it tried to understand the true nature of the universe,” Musk says, “that’s actually the best thing that I can think of from an AI safety standpoint.” “I believe it will be pro-humanity because humanity is simply more interesting than non-humanity.”
