On Monday, India’s squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup was announced, with all familiar faces making the cut. The team is very similar to the one that played in the Asia Cup, with Axar Patel replacing the injured Ravindra Jadeja, and the pace duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel returning from injury to replace youngsters Ravi Bishnoi and Avesh Khan. Rohit Sharma will lead India in an ICC tournament for the first time, with KL Rahul named as his deputy.
The other two top order batters in the squad are Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav, with middle order batter Deepak Hooda also named. Hardik Pandya is the squad’s star all-rounder, with Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant chosen as wicket-keeper batter options.
Along with Axar, the spin bowling options are Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh complete the pace bowling attack.
The selectors also named four reserve players: veteran paceman Mohammed Shami, all-rounder Deepak Chahar, spinner Ravi Bishnoi, and top order batter Shreyas Iyer. The squad for the upcoming T20I series against Australia and South Africa has also been announced by the selectors.
