Through the use of sophisticated algorithms, artificial intelligence (AI) systems can handle a variety of difficult jobs. For the first time, a research team has now built a robot employing artificial intelligence.
The first AI tool that can deftly create robots from scratch has been created by a group of scientists at Chicago’s Northwestern University. The robot itself is not complex, but it illustrates how AI tools might be used to create robots as algorithms get more intelligent.
According to a university paper, this AI produced a tiny, mushy, and oddly shaped robot. It is now constructed of inorganic materials. However, developers claim that it is just the beginning of employing artificial intelligence to create tools.
Researchers gave the AI system the following directive: Create a robot that can traverse a smooth surface. The little robot that could effectively walk was created by the AI tool in a matter of seconds, condensing billions of years of natural development.
The AI program’s developers assert that in addition to being quick, it just requires a small personal computer and is capable of building buildings from scratch. The majority of the time, AI systems use a lot of resources and energy.
The journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences released an article titled “Efficient automatic design of robots” that highlighted the results from this AI initiative.
“We made a fairly quick discovery. Sam Kriegman, a primary researcher from Northwestern’s McCormick School of Engineering, described the method as a “AI-driven design algorithm that bypasses the traffic jams of evolution without reverting to the bias of human designers.”
