An addiction that causes growing anxiety

For millions of people, using a smartphone has now developed into a habit that would be very challenging to break. Some people run the risk of their smartphone usage even turning into an addiction—something they can’t live without at the risk of getting sick or going through withdrawal. basically the same as other addictive substances.

How can we tell if we are at risk of becoming smartphone dependent? There are a few indicators to look out for. At least 67% of smartphone owners reported doing so even when their phone is not ringing or vibrating, according to the Washington PEW Research Center, which also offers information on social issues. One of the main red flags for a potential smartphone addiction would be this.

It is thought that having a smartphone addiction can be
detected by at least four symptoms or signs. The individual must be in a
situation where his life is seriously harmed by his excessive and problematic
phone use.

The signs and symptoms include the need to use the phone more and
more frequently, worry about using it too much, ineffective attempts to use it
less, loss of sense of time due to excessive use, problems at work or in
relationships as a result of excessive use, and negative emotions when the
phone loses network or stops working (anger, irritability, depression).

Addiction and nomophobia

The fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) does not yet list smartphone addiction, but the research compared it to gambling addiction, which has more definite diagnostic criteria and is covered in the Handbook. On the other hand, the uncontrollable fear of losing access to the mobile phone network has been referred to as nomophobia for some time.

Smartphone addiction can cause sleep disorders, depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, and relationship issues in addition to physical issues (such as problems with the neck and vision).
