There has been a noticeable increase in the number of generative AI-powered features launching for smartphones. One notable example is the Magic Eraser, which was initially launched for the Google Pixel. Since then, various adaptations of this feature have gradually made their presence felt on other Android phones, including the Samsung Galaxy S24 series.

Microsoft has introduced a new feature called ‘Generative Erase’ which is now available for Windows 11 and Windows 10 users. The feature is part of the Photos App and is powered by artificial intelligence. Other AI-driven features such as Background Blur, removing and replacing backgrounds have also been added to the app. However, to access these features, you will need to update to the latest app version 2024.11020.21001.0.

According to Microsoft, this feature enables you to remove any unwanted objects or visual distractions from your photos, such as background clutter. As compared to Spot fix, Generative Erase is more efficient in producing a realistic and seamless output even when erasing a large area.

"Here is a guide on how to use the feature:"

  1. open the app and select the image you want to edit.
  2. click on the Edit Image option.
  3. select the Erase option to remove any unwanted parts of the image.
  4. Adjust the brush size to your desired precision.
  5. If you want to add or remove masks, you can disable Auto Apply. Each mask represents an area that will be erased.
