Meta has launched WhatsApp Channels, opening a brand-new channel for communication. WhatsApp Channels are a one-way broadcasting mechanism that let administrators share text, pictures, videos, stickers, and polls with a large audience. They were first introduced in June.
On September 13, 2023, Meta published a blog entry in which she announced the news. “Today we have launched WhatsApp Channels in India and will deliver a private way for people to receive updates that matter to them,” said Meta in this blog post. Additionally, we now allow consumers to follow some of their favourite athletes, artists, innovators, and thought leaders directly within WhatsApp.

Using the platform’s new ‘Updates’ page, users may access WhatsApp Channels. Users can easily find their chosen channels and Status updates, keeping them apart from their private communications with their loved ones, friends, and communities.
Several well-known people have already made their WhatsApp Channels public, including Katrina Kaif, Diljit Dosanjh, Akshay Kumar, and Vijay Deverakonda. A noteworthy development is the Indian Cricket Team’s introduction of a WhatsApp channel, which is timed to the growing interest in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

The ‘Enhanced Directory’ feature of WhatsApp Channels makes it easier for users to identify channels that are specific to their country. Additionally, depending on follower counts, users may discover channels that are fresh, very active, or well-liked.
Emojis may be used by users to communicate their reactions within WhatsApp Channels, and the overall reaction count is clearly shown. Additionally, a link back to the originating channel is automatically included when users transmit updates to their conversations or groups, making it easier for others to get the information.
It’s crucial to stress that joining a channel does not reveal the user’s phone number to the admin or other members. Who one chooses to follow is a completely personal decision. Administrators can also prevent screenshots and forwards from appearing in their channels. Additionally, they maintain control over who may subscribe to their channel and whether or not it should be listed in the directory.
Here's how to establish your own WhatsApp Channels :
- Open WhatsApp on your phone and navigate to the Updates tab.
- Tap the plus icon (+), and select New channel.
- Tap ‘Get started’ and follow the onscreen instructions.
- Add a channel name to finalize the creation.
- Customize your channel by adding a description and an icon.
- Finally, tap Create channel, and you’re all set.
With the launch of WhatsApp Channels in India, Meta is laying the groundwork for a dynamic and interesting communication experience, providing users with a wide variety of material and updates.
